Dear Senator-elect,

I am concerned about your recent statements on waterboarding, and on this eve of the anniversary of the executive order ending torture and the announcement to close Guantanamo, I wanted to urge that you reconsider your views.

Please listen to the expert opinion of interrogators who have spoken out to say that torture is not only wrong, it’s ineffective. And military leaders who know that it undermines our national security.

As for closing Guantanamo, experts from the military, law enforcement, and correctional system, and Americans like me, all concur that we must close the prison at Guantanamo, end indefinite detention, and try suspected terrorists in federal courts. It is in our national security interest.
