Tell members of the House Armed Services Committee to read the Eikenberry memos before writing a 2011 budget for the Afghanistan war.
This year, 30,000 additional American troops will be deployed to Afghanistan – despite the fact that the U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan expressly opposed troop escalation in two strongly worded cables sent to the White House in 2009.
The White House ignored his warnings and sent troops anyway.
As the House Armed Services Committee begins to write the Defense Department’s budget for 2011, we urge its members to read Eikenberry’s memos. HASC members should write strong language into the 2011 Defense budget that requires the Pentagon to begin withdrawing our troops by July 2011 as stated by President Obama.
