Celebrate the life and legacy of Eunice Kennedy Shriver and commit Eunice Kennedy Shriver Acts (EKS Acts) of inclusion, acceptance and unity for and with individuals with intellectual disabilities. Throughout her life, Eunice Kennedy Shriver demonstrated an unrelenting indomitable spirit in action that one person could change the world. The goal of EKS Day is to share her story, inspire young people to commit EKS Acts of Unity and reach 100,000 EKS Acts by the first annual global Eunice Kennedy Shriver Day on 25 September 2010.

Some Sample Eunice Kennedy Shriver Acts:

-Become a Special Olympics Unified Sports partner, volunteer or sign up to be a Best Buddy
-Collect & donate fun supplies & games to special education classrooms or learning centers
-Run a Public Service Announcement (PSA) in morning news or announcements at school or an editorial in the student newspaper about the Eunice Kennedy Shriver vision
-Set up an EKS awareness table on your school campus in the library, hallway, lunchroom, media center, or student union
-Take one or more persons with an intellectual disability with you to a sports event
-Invite a classmate with an intellectual disability to sit with you at lunch
-Ask someone with an intellectual disability to play tennis, kick a soccer ball, shoot basketballs, or play another one-on-one game
-Fight prejudice in your school by launching a campaign against use of the “R-word”
-Change your Facebook profile to a photo of Eunice Kennedy Shriver and share one of her iconic quotes as your status
-Tweet about EKS legacy and impact

Eunice Kennedy Shriver’s actions helped open people’s minds to the gifts and talents of individuals with intellectual disabilities. She believed in their possibilities, which fuels a desire in all of us to make a difference. Eunice Kennedy Shriver demonstrated an unrelenting indomitable spirit proving that one person could make a difference and change the world. Her lasting legacy must be our continued commitment to improve the lives of the 200 million people worldwide living with intellectual disabilities and experiencing social disrespect and diminished opportunities.

Today, our call to action begins with you. We invite you to celebrate this extraordinary woman’s legacy by taking part in Eunice Kennedy Shriver Day’s demonstration of inclusion, acceptance and unity:

- Participate in a local Special Olympics or Best Buddies “PLAY ON” event on Eunice Kennedy Shriver Day
- Use social, print, or video media to share the impact of Eunice Kennedy Shriver
- Challenge your friends and family to join in doing and sharing EKS Acts of Unity, or
- Create your own act that demonstrates your passion for continuing Eunice Kennedy Shriver’s invaluable legacy
