UPDATE – The response below is not a direct response from @BobMcDonnell, but rather additional information surrounding McDonnell’s controversial thesis the editors of this site added. We would encourage @BobMcDonnell to reply directly to this petition and explain if he voted against equal pay for women because of the views he promoted in his thesis. While at Pat Roberton’s CBN University, 34-yr. Old Bob McDonnell wrote a political blueprint for governing. He spent the next 20 years working to implement his out-of-the-mainstream social agenda. The Washington Post broke the story after @BobMcDonnell mislead Post reporters about the content of the thesis during an interview. The Post said @BobMcDonnell “pursued at least ten of the policy goals he laid out in the research paper” during his time in the General Assembly. @BobMcDonnell wrote in his thesis: “Further expenditures would be used to subsidize a dynamic new trend of working women and feminists that is ultimately detrimental to the family by entrenching status-quo of nonparental primary nurture of children” Maybe that explains why, in 2001, McDonnell voted against equal pay for men and women. [Editors note] There has been a lot of press around this issue. In particular, here is Bob McDonnell’s response from Friday September 4th to WVEC: “I’m just flat out insulted Creigh Deeds would try to indicate that I don’t support women in the workplace. My wife has worked on and off for 33 years, my oldest two daughters both have master’s degrees and I encourage them to go out and better themselves. My oldest daughter served as an army lieutenant in Baghdad, Iraq, for a year.” Read More at WVEC Posted 2009-09-05 08:42:11 -0700
